CHARTS was delighted to be part of Argyll’s 5th Gaelic Gathering on 15 May 2026. The Gathering brought together organisations, community groups, and individuals to connect, share ideas, and build partnerships that help grow the Gaelic language within our communities.
On the day, we were joined by fantastic Gaelic voices from across the region, who spoke about their work to enrich and champion Gaelic in Argyll.
At the event, CHARTS' Oifigear Cultair Ghàidhlig Àdhamh Ó Broin spoke about the work undertaken by CHARTS to support Gaelic profile building and advocacy over the last year, including:
- Highlighting regional diversity within the language, including endangered local dialects and lore.
- Developing arts, cultural heritage, and place-based profile-raising projects.
- Embedding Gaelic across all CHARTS outputs.
This included projects such as:
- AITHNE, delivered in partnership with Engage Scotland, mapping 37 artists and delivering two recorded online events.
- Ceanglan Chaluim Chille, three pilot residencies in Mull and Campbeltown taking place from 2025 to 2026.
- Cruthaich Earra-Ghàidheal,12 Gaelic Arts & Heritage Awards launching in 2026.
CHARTS also shared its aims for 2026–27, including:
- Continuing to provide opportunities for Gaelic speakers and learners to engage with CHARTS.
- Sharing Gaelic elders’ knowledge and supporting young people’s understanding of Gaelic language and culture.
- Continuing partnerships with Ireland and supporting the inclusion of Scottish and Irish Gaelic speakers through bilingual and trilingual services.
- Increasing opportunities through themed strategic project activities year-on-year, both regionally and internationally.
- Supporting reciprocity and care for the living planet.
CHARTS also announced that its Gaelic Strategy will be published in September 2026, alongside the launch of a new Gaelic Members Group. To join the group, contact gaelic@chartsargyllandisles.org.
