ABOUT THE Duais Dìleab Chaluim Chille / COLMCILLE LEGACY AWARD
Duais Dìleab Chaluim Chille / The Colmcille Legacy Award, is a national arts and heritage award scheme created in partnership with Bòrd na Gàidhlig to commemorate the life and cultural legacy of Colmcille throughout the Year of Colmcille, 1500.
The project offered awards of up to £750 and an online exhibition to profile and support Gaelic culture and language. We invited Gaelic artists' and non-Gaelic speakers working in partnership with Gaelic speakers, to create and display artwork that celebrated, remembered and interpreted the role of Colmcille in the past and in contemporary society. This project supported a variety of work across arts media, artists were invited to submit proposals to support the development of new work, or highlight existing work.
This project, with a digital display approach, was designed to meet challenges presented by the impacts of Covid-19 at the time of the launch of Colmcille 1500.

Promoting Gaelic art and heritage with Illuminations
Illuminations was launched to support artists who received the Duais Dìleab Chaluim Chille / The Colmcille Legacy Award and allow the people of Argyll and Bute to collectively celebrate Colmcille 1500.
In June 2021 CHARTS lit up McCaig’s Tower in Oban with work by our Colmcille Legacy Awards artists. Following on from this event on 7 December 2021 iconic sites in Argyll and Bute were filled with art and music to mark the life and legacy of St Colmcille. To coincide with Illuminations, several other events took place in collaboration with Foras Na Gaeilge in Ireland. These surrounding events celebrated Gaelic arts and heritage with talks, poetry and art:
