Rè 2023 agus 2024, thadhail an taisbeanadh air ionadan ann an Earra-Ghàidheal, a’ toirt a-steach Taigh-tasgaidh Cheann Loch Chille Chiarain, Ionad Gàidhlig ÌleTaigh-tasgaidh Chille Mhàrtainn, Ionad na Creige, agus Ì Chaluim Chille, a’ cur taic ri farsaingeachd thachartasan Gàidhlig. Anns an Ògmhios 2024, chuir Cuairt Chaluim Chille crìoch air an turas aice ann an Alba ann an Ì Chaluim Chille airson Là Chaluim Chille.

Chaidh Cuairt Chaluim Chille a cruthachadh le Còmhdhail Cultair, Dualchais is Ealain Earra-Ghàidheal agus nan Eilean (CHARTS), le taic bho Chomhairle Earra-Ghàidheal agus Bhòid. Tha am pròiseact com-pàirteachais dàna seo eadar Earra-Ghàidheal agus Èirinn ga chur air chomas le co-thaic bho Bhòrd na Gàidhlig agus bho Fhoras na Gaeilge gus cur ris a’ chàirdeas eadar luchd-labhairt na Gàidhlig ann an Alba is Èirinn a nochd an toiseach ri linn Bliadhna Chaluim Chille 1500. Sa phròiseact gu ruige seo tha buidhnean-obrach air a bhith ann agus tachartasan le cothroman do luchd-ealain is luchd-cultair ri Gàidhlig na h-Èireann agus na h-Alba, a’ dèanadh ceangal ri còrr is 6000 de luchd-frithealaidh.

“Às leth Bòrd na Gàidhlig, bu mhath leinn CHARTS a mholadh airson na ceanglaichean eadar Èirinn agus Alba nan Gàidheal a neartachadh. Tha sinn cho toilichte taic a chur ri taisbeanadh Cuairt Chaluim Chille agus an dùthchas Gàidhealach saidhbhir eadar Alba is Èirinn a chomharrachadh.” -  Brian Ó hEadhra, Manaidsear Chom-pàirteachasan agus Leasachaidh, Bòrd na Gàidhlig

“Shoirbhich anabarrach fhèin math leis an taisbeanadh le luchd-èisteachd de chòrr is 6000 neach uile-gu-lèir, a’ toirt còmhla luchd-seinn, luchd-seanchais, luchd-foghlaim agus luchd-bàrdachd bho Earra-Ghàidheal agus Ulaidh air fad. B’ e amas an turais ionad gu tùr Gàidhealach a chur air dòigh far am faodte cainnt nan Gàidheal a labhairt, a chluinntinn agus a chomharrachadh aig gach tachartas-fosglaidh agus aig na bùithtean-obrach is na cur-seachadan nan lùib cuideachd. Chaidh dreach na h-Èireann den chànan a thaisbeanadh ann an Earra-Ghàidheal, a’ toirt na h-Èireann thairis air Sruth na Maoile air na clàran-taisbeanaidh fhèin, gun iomradh a thoirt air luchd-ciùil, luchd-seinn agus luchd-sgrìobhaidh na h-Èireann a thàinig air chuairt agus a ghabh bhon dualchas aice fhèin ann an suidheachadh Earra-Ghàidheal. Ann a bhith a’ feuchainn ris an drochaid a thaobh cànain is cultair a bh’ ann eadar Earra-Ghàidheal agus Ulaidh a thogail às ùr, chuir tachartasan Cuairt Chaluim Chille aig CHARTS labhairt Gàidhlig na h-Èireann agus Earra-Ghàidheal air thoiseach anns an aon àite eadar fileantaich, gu tric gun a’ Bheurla a’ briseadh a-steach air an luchd-labhairt. Bha an ceangal eadar Gàidheil na h-Alba agus na h-Èireann aig tachartasan-fosglaidh CHARTS àbhaisteachadh agus bha an càirdeas eadar cànan is cultar nan Gàidheal, is coma cò às a thigeadh e, ri fhaireachdainn gu làidir.” Àdhamh Ó Broin

Eachdraidh Taisbeanadh Chaluim Chille

Tha an taisbeanadh na chomharrachadh air beatha is dìleab Chaluim Chille agus chaidh a thaisbeanadh air feadh Èireann ann an 2021, a’ comharrachadh mìle gu leth bliadhna bho bhreith Chaluim Chille. Tha an taisbeanadh a’ comharrachadh dìleab cultarail, eachdraidheil agus creideimh Chaluim Chille, air a bheil cuideam nach beag ann an eachdraidh thràth na Crìostaidheachd. Agus e air adhradh mar fhear de thriùir pàtrain-naomha na h-Èireann, tha a’ bheatha air fàs fighte ri seanchas is sgeulachdan. An taobh a-muigh na h-Èireann, bha àite bunaiteach aige ann an sgapadh na Crìostaidheachd air feadh Alba, Shasainn agus diofar àiteachan san Roinn Eòrpa.

On loan from Donegal County Museum, Ireland, Cuairt Chaluim Chille // Touring St Columba began its year-long tour throughout Argyll, arriving in Scotland for the first time in June 2023. Throughout 2023 and 2024, the exhibition toured key sites in Argyll, including Campbeltown Museum, Islay Gaelic Centre, Kilmartin Museum, Rockfield Centre and Iona, supporting various Gaelic culture and language events. In June 2024, Cuairt Chaluim Chille // Touring St Columba completed its Scottish pilgrimage in Iona for the Feast Day of St Columba.

Cuairt Chaluim Chille // Touring St Columba was created by the Culture, Heritage and Arts Assembly, Argyll and Isles (CHARTS) and supported by Argyll and Bute Council. This bold partnership project between Argyll and Ireland was made possible with joint support from Bòrd na Gàidhlig and Foras na Gaeilge to further build relationships between Gaelic speakers in Ireland and Scotland, first seeded during the themed year Colmcille 1500. The project has included workshops and events with opportunities for participation by Irish and Scottish Gaelic artists and cultural practitioners, engaging over 6000 attendees.

"On behalf of Bòrd Na Gàidhlig, we would like to commend CHARTS in strengthening the bonds between Gaelic Ireland and Scotland. We are delighted to support Cuairt Chaluim Chille // Touring St Columba Exhibition and celebrate the rich Gaelic heritage shared between Scotland and Ireland." Brian Ó Headhra, Partnerships and Development Manager, Bòrd Na Gàidhlig

The tour was a resounding success with a total audience of over 6000 people, bringing together singers, storytellers, scholars and poets from all over Argyll and Ulster.  The intention of the tour was to provide a pan-Gaelic locus in which the language of the Gael could be spoken, heard and celebrated at every opening event, as well as through accompanying workshops and activities.  The Irish variant of the language was on display in Argyll, bringing Ireland physically across the Straits of Moyle on the very panels themselves, not to mention the visiting Irish musicians, singers and writers who performed from their local traditions in Argyllshire settings.  In the spirit of rebuilding the linguistic and cultural bridge which once existed between Argyll and Ulster, CHARTS’ Touring St Columba events naturalised the speaking of Irish and Argyll variants of the language in the same space between fluent speakers, often without the interlocutory interference of English. Interaction between Scottish and Irish Gaels was fully normalised at CHARTS’ opening events and the essential unity of Gaelic language and culture, no matter where it hailed from, was palpably felt.” Àdhamh Ó Broin

History of St Columba/Colmcille Exhibition

This exhibition celebrates the life and legacy of Colmcille and was displayed throughout Ireland in 2021, marking the 1500th anniversary of the birth of Colmcille. The exhibition celebrates the cultural, historical and religious inheritance of Colmcille, who holds significant prominence in the early history of Christianity. Revered as one of Ireland's three patron saints, his life has become interwoven with folklore and legends. Beyond Ireland, he played a pivotal role in disseminating Christianity across Scotland, England, and various parts of Europe.
