Alasdair Satchel

Gaelic

Tha Alasdair Satchel ri tèatar, craoladh-lìn agus film ag obair le Gàidhlig, Beurla is Fraingis. Le rùn daingeann don Ghàidhlig, bidh e a’ toirt a-steach cànan gu nàdarra sna pròiseactan aige. Am measg nan obraichean leis o chionn ghoirid tha a’ cur dàin Ghàidhlig mar fhilmichean agus a’ rannsachadh bheachdan mun Ghàidhlig ann an Ceann an Ear Ghlaschu tro shreath chraolaidhean-lìn. Tha obair fharsaing Alasdair a’ comharrachadh cultar Gàidhlig agus cuideachd a’ dèanamh sgrùdadh mionaideach air an ìomhaigh is an riochd a th’ air sa là a th’ ann an-diugh.

Tha cànan is cultar na Gàidhlig mar phàirt den dualchas agam a leigeas leam na tha mi a’ dèanamh anns an obair agam a cheasnachadh is a thuigsinn le chèile. Bidh mi ga cleachdadh aig an taigh le mo mhac, agus anns an obair agam le film, tèatar agus craoladh-lìn. Tha Gàidhlig a’ cruthachadh cheanglaichean ri uimhir a dhaoine agus a’ leigeil leinn ceangal ris an t-saoghal mun cuairt oirnn, a’ saidhbhreachadh ar beatha ann an dòigh a nì ceangal ris an àm a dh’fhalbh, ris an àm an làthair agus ris an àm ri teachd. Airson tòrr dhaoine, tha Gàidhlig na roghainn dhuinn, chan e default position a th’ ann. Tha mi an dòchas gu bheil an obair agam a’ cuideachadh gus Gàidhlig a dhèanamh na default position ann an iomadh raon de ar beatha.” – Alasdair Satchel

English

Alasdair Satchel is a theatre, podcast and filmmaker working in English, Gaelic, and French. With a strong commitment to Gaelic, he integrates the language organically into his projects. Recent work includes adapting Gaelic poems into films and exploring the perception of Gaelic in Glasgow’s East End through a podcast series. Alasdair’s diverse practice celebrates Gaelic culture while critically examining its contemporary identity and representation.

Gaelic language and culture is a part of my heritage which allows me to both question and understand what I'm doing with my work. I use it in the home with my son, and in my work with film, theatre, and podcasting. Gaelic creates connections with so many people and allows different ways of engaging with the world around us, enriching our lives in a way that connects to the past, present and future. In so many of our lives Gaelic is a choice, it's not a default position. I hope my work helps us ease toward making Gaelic a default position in many aspects of our lives.” - Alasdair Satchel
