Artists' Altered and Handmade Books: Dunoon, The Cowal Peninsula and Bute
Posted by Kathy Bruce
We invite all professional artists (over 18 years of age) practicing in Dunoon, The Cowal Peninsula and Bute to submit artists’ handmade and altered books for this exhibition.
Artists' books have employed a wide range of forms, including the traditional illuminated manuscript form as well as less common forms like scrolls, fold-outs, concertinas or loose items contained in a box. Additionally artists’ have also taken pre-printed published books and altered them in a multitude of ways to create a unique bookwork.
Artists have been active in printing and book production for centuries, but the artist's book is primarily a 20th-century form that is continuing to evolve.
For examples see: www.books-on-books.com & https://nmwa.org/whats-on/exhibitions/online/book-art-altered-albums.
