Bioregioning Kintyre: Community-Led Nature Restoration

As part of CHARTS Gaelic programme in 2025, CHARTS collaborated with  Zoë Prosser and Dr Michael Pierre Johnson as part of the wider (Re)Designing Landscape Stewardship programme at The School of Innovation and Technology at Glasgow School of Art.

Zoë Prosser supported two events Dùthchas Beò: Revitalising Reciprocity with the Gaelic Landscape 2025, part of an annual event that explores the living connections between Gaelic culture, ceremony and the natural world and Seanchas Sgibnis, delivered as part of Seachdain na Gàidhlig / World Gaelic Week, which celebrated the Gaelic heritage of Skipness and its surrounding woods. Seanchas Sgibnis, was led by Àdhamh Ó Broin alongside Dónal Mac Giolla Chomhgaill and the Kintyre Rainforest Alliance. The event brought together Gaelic speakers, learners and community members to explore connections between language, landscape and culture.

Building on this work, CHARTS contributed to a new film by the School of Innovation and Technology and Alasdair Satchel (Struthach Films) that documents community-led nature restoration initiatives across Kintyre. The film highlights projects protecting at-risk habitats and species, including temperate rainforest and seagrass environments, and explores the idea of bioregioning - reconnecting and restoring ecological systems across natural and human boundaries.
