Workshop with Deborah Gray lead artist from Celtic Colours Exhibition
Posted by Isle of Luing Community Trust
Part of the Celtic Colours exhibtion is currently on display at the Atlantic Islands Centre on Luing until 6th August. Five Luing islanders took part in creating crafts for it at the Rockfield Centre in Oban last year. Two lead artists Deborah Gray and Thomas Keynes worked on the theme of trees and indeigenous languages with people attending the workshop. The theme used the Celtic tree alphabet connected to the Ogham alphabet and the Old Irish language, a precursor of Gaelic, that is used by Thomas Keynes in his manuscript work.
This workshop will be led by lead textile artist Deborah Gray and held in the room in the Atlantic Islands Centre where the Celtic Colours exhibition is displayed. Participants will use felted fabric naturally dyed with plants to make a hand-stitched purse or needle case embellished with leafy stitching and natural finds.
