Join National Galleries Scotland and Dr Kate Cowcher (University of St Andrews) for Naomi Mitchison, African modernism, and art for the people in rural Scotland.

Dr Kate Cowcher will outline the history of the Argyll Collection, which includes 12 artworks purchased in East Africa between 1965 and 1976. The collection was the brainchild of writer Naomi Mitchison and artist and teacher, Jim Tyre. Together they built up an art collection with the aim of making contemporary art accessible to rural Scottish communities.
