Beginning at Portobello Beach by John Street, Silver Swimmer will be promenading from 2-5pm on Saturday, September 7. She will be carrying placards sign-posting her battle against marine ecosystem despoliation for corporate profit and popping into cafés and artists’ studios on the lookout for refreshment and engagement.

Silver Swimmer is an art-persona of Kate Clayton, a performance artist based in Glasgow and Bute. Silver Swimmer promotes the visibility of women over 70 and is a metaphor for carrying on. She began life with a long distance swim from Dundee to Aberdeen. Subsequently, she has performed in cabaret and protested against the removal of free swimming for over-60s, the closing of her local swimming pool and the proposed opening of a fish farm. Activism has become as important as aesthetics, swimming or humour. Silver Swimmer is a key player in Kate’s ‘NOT DEAD YET’ repertoire, more of which can be browsed here: www.kateclayton.co.uk
