Forgotten Fleece Tales at Benmore Botanic Garden
Posted by Sarah Rosenthal-Almirall
Forgotten Fleece Tales is a touring Scottish exhibition of sustainable textile arts. It focuses on the theme of wool as an undervalued resource and demonstrates the material’s enduring beauty and versatility.
Twenty artists from across Scotland were asked to make pieces using “waste wool” - raw fleeces that would otherwise be consigned to the scrap heap, industrial mill waste such as selvedge and cone ends, or repurposed wool from discarded textiles.
The result was an exciting exploration of the place wool holds in Scotland’s history and heritage, and how it can be reimagined as part of a sustainable future for fashion, design, architecture, conservation and more.
Benmore Botanic Garden will host a selection of favourite artworks and brand new pieces from the exhibition’s Argyll-based artists, celebrating the region’s rich textile history, and inviting visitors to find their place in the ongoing tale of Scottish wool.
Please note the Gallery will be closed on Friday 24th April.
