Bit Collective is excited to announce that we will be hosting an online event exploring the representation of women in Scottish folk songs. Cosy up and join us from the comfort of your own homes on Mon 15th Dec 7-8:30pm for two thought-provoking mini-talks and a group discussion.

Our first speaker will be critically acclaimed singer-songwriter, pianist and member of European folk band Cara, Kim Edgar who will speak about feminist issues in the context of folk songs and in more detail about her work. We will then be joined by musician and Bit Collective board member Jenn Butterworth who will be sharing about her incredible debut solo album ‘Her By Design’, which highlights the voices and experiences of women, challenging stereotypes often found in traditional songs.

The talks will be followed by a relaxed group discussion led by Kim and Jenn where participants can discuss their thoughts on the topic in a safe and welcoming environment.

Prior to the event, participants are also encouraged to firstly let us know of any accessibility requirements and secondly to contribute a song (preferably the song title and who it’s by!) that they feel centres women’s voices via the following form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfZyrTEWEDXU2d4CPrbHQZqtZ4t8HERQF2XJDLfhS0um5kPiQ/viewform

These song suggestions will be used to create a bank of songs that will be shared as a resource for participants and the Bit Collective community.

A zoom link will be emailed to participants prior to the event.

Hope to see you there!
