Critical Friends: Sustaining International Working

Join CHARTS International projects lead Dr Deirdre MacKenna for an online round table exploring the motivations for and methods of developing international collaborations.

During this event, hear from speakers working in coastal, island and rural locations and learn how international collaborations impact practices. Hear from Argyll artist and international researchers from the University of St Andrews and Uganda about their approaches to international working. This workshop is designed with collaboration in mind, and we encourage conversation between speakers and the audience. We welcome all participants to join an open discussion with speakers and peers to share ideas, experiences and ask questions on International collaboration.

Speakers will cover their methods for international working, including:

• How can artists sustain motivation to participate in international actions when working in coastal/island/rural locations?
• Artists’ approaches to making new connections in new territories and unknown networks. 
• How artists can sustain international practices when unable to be physically present (e.g., maintaining and further building connections).
• How international working nudges artists’ practices forward.
• And methods for Inspiration/motivation/resilience.

This event is developed from international working, which emerged through artists involved in CHARTS Growing Global Networks programme in 2024.
