Beginners Crochet LIVE | Nesting Bowls Workshop
Posted by Helensburgh Art Hub
With the help of ZOOM you'll be able to crochet-a-long in the comfort and safety of your own home.
Mastering the magic ring and working in the round are essential crochet skills. They open up a whole other world of crochet possibilities and projects that can’t be made in rows, like granny squares, flowers, toys . . . In this beginners workshop we’ll have a go at making the tiniest nesting bowl in this set of 3, as I take you through the basics of crocheting in the round, how to increase and change colour if you’re feeling brave enough!
This workshop takes place online so you will need to have internet access and the materials listed below to hand. It's suitable for beginners, anyone’s who’s only ever crocheted in rows, if you just need a reminder of how it’s done, or you just fancy some social crochet.
What you'll need to craft along. . .
the pattern (this will be emailed before the workshop)
a crochet hook - (I'll be using a 6.0mm hook - I would recommend using a 5.0, 5.5 or a 6.0mm hook)
a chunky yarn in 1 or 2 colours (I'll be using Drops Andes. I would recommend using something thicker than normally recommended for the crochet hook you have to get a nice tight structure, but we'll work with whatever you have to hand.)
scissors
a big eye needle
a cup of tea and a biscuit (I'll be having Green Tea and a chocolate digestive!)
Optional extra. . .
If you are local (Helensburgh or Cardross) we can provide a kit with everything you'll need to complete this project. It will include yarn, a 3.0mm hook and a big eye needle.
You have 3 colour options to choose from:
1. Powder Pink/ Cerise - top
2. Seagreen/ Light Brown - middle
3. Brown/ Grey Lilac - bottom
Kits are £5.00 and will be delivered to your doorstep ahead of the workshop. Send us a pm via facebook with your colour choice and address details by the Wednesday before the workshop date. Payment is by bank transfer.
Taking this workshop is Sharon Goodwin from Sew Silly Lily, a graduate of Glasgow School of Art with a lifelong passion for textiles, craft and design.
