A Bit Trickier Crochet LIVE | Fernando Fox Wrap CAL
Posted by Helensburgh Art Hub
A CAL is a group crocheting the same thing, at the same time and at the same pace. For our first big CAL we'll all be crocheting a Fernando Fox Wrap. Fernando's a collar type scarf, just long enough to curl round your neck and perfect for popping on when it starts to get nippy.
We'll crochet Fernando over 3 weeks, meeting up online every Saturday morning, and share our finished wraps at the end. There's no complicated stitches, just some clever construction, colour work and join and sew as you go techniques, but I'll take you through the important steps, with tips and advice along the way. You will have to do some crochet in between classes so everyone is at the same stage each week, and to ensure we all finish together - that's an important part of a CAL!
Week 1 - Fernando's legs, ears and nose
Week 2 - Fernando's tail and body
Week 3 - Fernando's head and the final flourishes!
The workshops takes place online so you will need to have internet access and the materials listed below to hand. The scarf's not difficult to make, but it will be helpful if you are familiar with the basics, including single and double crochet stitches (US terms).
What you'll need to craft along. . .
190-200m x Double knit yarn (I used 1 ball of Drops Sky. If you are using a different yarn you may need to consider buying more just in case!)
Double knit yarn in black (I used a part ball of Drops Sky)
Double knit yarn in taupe (I used a part ball of Drops Puna)
a 3.5mm crochet hook
2 x 4mm black beads
1 x felt ball (can be made with yarn with wool)
toy filling
a small eye and a big eye needle
thread
