Iseabal Hendry

Gaelic

Tha an t-saothair aig Iseabal stèidhichte gu domhainn ann an dualchas ciùird Rois an Ear, obair nan cliabh, tughadh, agus clincearachd gu sònraichte, air an d’rinn i rannsachadh ann am Ploc Loch Aillse. Tha an obair aice a’ dèanamh sgrùdadh air a’ cheangal eadar Gàidhlig agus àite, a’ tarraing brosnachadh bho sgeulachdan, aithris-bheòil, agus lusan gu h-ionadail. Ri linn dhi bhith air mhuinntireas le Atlas Arts agus Tobar an Dualchais ann an 2024, rinn Iseabal sgrùdadh air draoidheachd ainmean Gàidhlig lusan agus thug i a-steach dhan obair aice iad. Tha cànan is cultar na Gàidhlig mar bhonn-stèidh brìoghmhor ris an obair chruthachail aice, a’ brosnachadh a cuid obrach fad na tìde agus a cuid rannsachaidh air obair nan cliabh bho shean.

English

Iseabal Hendry’s practice is deeply rooted in the craft traditions of Wester Ross, particularly basket-making, roof-thatching, and clinker boatbuilding, which she studied in Plockton. Her work explores the connection between Gaelic language and place, drawing inspiration from stories, folklore, and local plants. During a residency with Atlas Arts and Tobar an Dualchais in 2024, Iseabal explored the magic of Gaelic plant names and integrated them into her craft. Gaelic language and culture provide a meaningful foundation for her creative process, inspiring her ongoing work and future studies in traditional basketry.
