Janis Marshall Reilly Freelance Performer/Director/Producer/MC - and Humanist Wedding Celebrant Third Sector Support Advisor for Argyll and Bute Third Sector Interface
JANIS has been unravelling the fun and fickle thread of the arts for 40 years. Born into a flat filled with theatre and puppetry in the Johnstone Castle housing scheme - and fuelled by influences including Easterhouse Festival Society and early Fablevision – a move to Argyll saw 10-year-old Janis establish the Cowal Youth Theatre which ran for just over a decade.
ON leaving school, Janis worked as a Singer before moving into Public Relations and Events Management at The Scottish Parliament and Edinburgh Fringe. Surviving an MA Theatre Studies at Glasgow Uni, she spent 20 years as a freelance Performer, Director, Producer and Programmer working across Scotland in all areas of theatre work - with a specialism in tour management and theatre for babies, children and families - as well as the rights of parents/carers working in the performing arts.
During the pandemic, Janis adapted to digital programming, generating work for a sector starved of live venues. She was also a mental health advocate, appearing on TV and social media.
IN 2021 Janis returned to Cowal with a husband and two children in tow and is currently focussed on her role as Third Sector Support Advisor for Cowal and Bute while also picking up on freelance work of her choosing. Drawing on years of experience in the cultural sector, Janis understands both the amazing work being achieved by charities, community companies and social enterprises - but likewise the challenges they face. Meeting and the inspirational people in third sector groups across Cowal and Bute is an invigorating role and she is enjoying offering her skills and support while also soaking up lots of learning - and relishing the advancement of her own knowledge base.
