James Coogan

Individual

I make a range of unique sculptural forms representing icebergs, glacial landscapes, and monoliths. I also make a variety of pots, vases, and bowls within the same theme. My colour palette is a variety of blues and greys against the white clay body.

I see the Arctic as a natural sculpture park.

While immersed in the world of oceanography I watched glaciers shrink, move, retreat, crack and tumble into the warming fjords. I watched in awe as icebergs were born and how they drifted and melted in the sun. How they were sculpted by water into improbable shapes and forms. My pottery is inspired by this process and the sense of helplessness and loss I experienced throughout my studies.

My aim as an Artist is to create works that promote discussion and thought about the Arctic environment and to reflect on the beauty that is being lost to a changing climate.
