CODEX, An Exhibition of Artists' Books: Ten Artists from Dunoon & The Cowal Peninsula

The exhibition consists of the art form known as “artist’s books,” specifically handmade limited editions or one-of-a-kind books. The works often reflect on one particular theme or concept of interest to the artist and include a variety of texts and images. Examples of what are known as “altered books” are also included, in which previously published books have been manipulated by the artist to produce a unique artwork that may or may not reflect on the content of the original book. A variety of materials not always associated with traditional paper books are employed in the production of these works of art, including ceramics, found objects and natural elements. Some books are produced specifically for this exhibition by artist who have never made them before and others are by artists whose artistic practice regularly encompasses the production of artist’s books

The exhibition is the result of a public call by DunoonMOCA for artists from Argyll and Bute to submit artist’s books for this exhibition.
