Mount Stuart Trust’s Visual Arts Programme has an international reputation with nineteen years experience of working with established artists. In 2018, the programme was expanded to include  artists at an earlier career stage. Following the success of the inaugural residencies Mount Stuart Trust is delighted to run the residency again this year.

This specialist opportunity will give an emerging artist time and space to explore their practice in  relation to Bute island communities and to this end will focus on socially engaged practice.

Covid 19
We have reflected on the residency in the light of Covid 19, and invite artists to make their  applications according to our altered environment. Given the continuing changing circumstances, we  are open to creative explorations of social practice and the new challenges of isolation, digital  disadvantage and fostering resilience. We may not expect the successful candidate to be physically  present on Bute, depending on governmental guidelines, in which case site visits may be arranged.

As part of our commitment to supporting artists from diverse backgrounds we encourage  applications from BAME, LGBT+ and disabled artists. Any artist that identifies in their application as a  member of any of these groups and fits the eligibility criteria will automatically be shortlisted.

Length of residency: 4-8 weeks.
Date: February-March 2021.
Accommodation: accommodation on Bute will be provided if and as required (see Covid 19 above) Fee: £472 per week.
