Oifigear Cultair Ghàidhlig Àdhamh Ó Broin

Tha Oifigear Cultair Ghàidhlig aig CHARTS a-nis, Àdhamh Ó Broin.  Tha sinn air ar dòigh a thoirt a-staigh don sgioba ’s tha a’ dèanamh fiughair ri na h-iomairtean a thig am follais à seo.

Tha Àdhamh na Ghàidheal de shinnsearachd mheasgte às Éirinn ’s Alba, air a thogail eadar Earra-Ghàidheal ’s Glaschu.  Mar Chomhairliche Gàidhlig, rìochdaire nam fiolm, sgrìobhaiche, fear an taighe ’s ceòladair iomadh-innealach, tha Àdhamh air a bhith an sàs sna h-ealanan fad a bheatha.  Mar neach-labhairt mhisneachail de Ghàidhlig, seinneadair ’s seanchaidh, tha e air na 17 blianaichean a dh’fhalbh a chur seachad a’ dèanamh ath-ionnsachadh air cànan a mhuinntir, a’ cur céilidh air ’s a’ cur fo agallamh seann daoine air feadh Gàidhealtachd na h-Albann.  Tha Àdhamh air a’ chuid as motha den ùine sin a chur ris an obair aige leis an fheadhainn mu dhéireadh aig an robh Gáilig Dhail Riada, ag ath-bheothachadh dualchainnt a bha an ìre mhath caillte taobh Chomhaill ’s Meadhan Earra-Ghàidheil.

Tha Àdhamh ’s a bhean Ealasaid air an triùir daoine-cloinne a thogail leis an dualchainnt mar chiad chànan ’s a-nis tha ginealach ùr de luchd-labhairt thùsach Ghàidhlig tìr-mór Earra-Ghàidheil ann.  Gu dearbh, cha bhith Àdhamh no a’ chlann a’ bruidhinn Beurla sam bith ri chéile aig an taigh!

Tha ùidh mhór aige ann an Gàidhlig mar inneal gus saoghal nàdair ’s talamh Earra-Ghàidheil a thuigsinn ’s tha e an dòchas dorast fhosgladh a-staigh do sin air son na h-uile seòrsa neach-ealain a bhios ag obair an dà chuid san dùthaich ’s taobh-muigh.

Officially CHARTS has an Oifigear Cultair Ghàidhlig / Gaelic Culture Office  Àdhamh  Ó Broin, we are thrilled to have him on our team and can’t wait to see what projects grow.

Àdhamh Ó Broin is a Gael of mixed Irish and Scottish Highland ancestry, brought up between mainland Argyll and Glasgow. As a Gaelic Consultant, film producer, writer, MC and multi-instrumentalist composer, Àdhamh has been involved in the arts his entire adult life. As a passionate Gaelic speaker, singer and tradition bearer, he has spent the last 17 years reclaiming the language of his people, visiting, interviewing and recording his elders throughout the Highlands and Islands, working especially closely with the last Gaelic speakers in Cowal and Mid-Argyll to revive the forgotten dialect of the area, Gáilig Dhail Riada.

Àdhamh and his wife Lisa have brought up three children, Caoimhe, Lachann and Saorsa, with the dialect as their first language and they now form a new generation of native Argyll Gaelic speakers.  In fact, neither Àdhamh nor his children speak any English to one another around the house!

He is particularly interested in Gaelic as a cultural, artistic and spiritual interface with the natural world and with the landscape of Argyll, and hopes to be able to provide a bridge into that realm for all kinds of artists working across the area and beyond.
