Patrick Leach: St’át’imc Ceramics from the Pacific Northwest
Posted by Edgelands Gallery & Cultural Centre
Join Edgelands Gallery & Cultural Centre as we take you on a journey from the Snuneymuxw First Nation territories at the heart of the Salish Sea, to the mountainous homelands of the St’át’imc First Nation, through a stunning range of vessels by artist and ceramicist Patrick Leach.
Patrick’s ceramics are known for their cloud-like interior glazes, blazing bands of colour and black, sgraffitoed exteriors. His vessels also feature geometric patterns associated with Interior & Coast Salish basketry and motifs inspired by ancient red ochre pictographs. From cultural practices such as dip-net fishing to formline carving, Patrick’s works express the inextricable links between cultural continuity and the ongoing vitality of ecosystems across the Pacific Northwest.
At Edgelands, we are delighted to welcome Patrick’s work to Europe for the first time. We invite you to enjoy this new collection of vases and bowls online and by-appointment, on the Isle of Gigha.
