Artist talk: Melissa Hilliard Potter & Reni Gower
Posted by Wild at Art Ltd
Melissa Hilliard Potter and Reni Gower are two American artists who will be visiting Argyll this June to lead a workshop themed "Sacred Geometry & the Scottish Landscape" in collaboration with Innellan-based creative travel company Wild at Art.
On the last evening of the 10-day creative experience Reni and Melissa invite you to join an artist talk about their artistic take on the theme of Sacred Geometry and also about their own work and projects.
Melissa Potter is a professor at Columbia College Chicago. She produces eco-feminist artworks fuelled by cross-disciplinary collaborations and research with international botanists, farmers, seed stewards, artisans, ethnographers and anthropologists addressing themes of climate crisis and the destruction of traditional cultures. She will share some of her latest projects for this talk. https://melpotter.com
Reni Gower from Virginia creates geometric iterations based on traditional patterns and cultural symbols governed by the universality of mathematical perfection. Initially informed by American piece quilts, her interdisciplinary studio practice (painting, printmaking, papercutting, and collage) is also inspired by Celtic knotwork and Islamic tile patterns. Reni will discuss how Sacred Geometry has informed her art practice for over 40 years. https://renigower.com
